Specific research interests in materials science include automotive composite materials, and in particular the durability of those materials, the use of composites to repair steel pipe and other metallic structures, and the fracture mechanics of very thin metal structures. In the area of engineering design, research interests include the decision-making process in design, teamwork, and design education. Related to sustainable energy, research interests include novel wind turbines, hybrid-electric vehicles, and human-powered vehicles.
Professor Henshaw teaches courses and performs research in the areas of materials science, engineering design, and sustainable energy technology. He also writes books about science and technology for a general audience.
