The University of Tulsa has named Rick Dickson, a Tulsa native and UTulsa alumnus, as interim president, starting June 18, 2025. Deeply committed to the university, he previously served as UTulsa’s vice president and director of athletics twice, for four years in the early 1990s and again from 2020-24.
Dickson has also served as athletic director at Washington State University (1994-2000) and at Tulane University (2000-15). At those institutions as well as at UTulsa, he’s been a prolific fundraiser and community builder, earning the respect of colleagues, students and university supporters.
Following his retirement in 2016, Dickson formed R.P. Dickson Consulting LLC, which has assisted many universities with multiple projects including Title IX reviews, departmental organization, fundraising and marketing campaigns and facility development.
Dickson serves on the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board, Tulsa Regional Tourism Board of Directors, USTA Collegiate Tennis Committee and Team Gleason Board of Directors, an organization to improve life for people with ALS.
With Dickson as interim president, supported by an outstanding executive leadership team, the university’s board has initiated a search committee that will work to identify UTulsa’s next president.
