Position Summary

The Admissions Counselor and Diversity Outreach Coordinator for the College of Law reports to the Associate Dean, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and is responsible for assisting in all aspects of J.D. admissions and financial aid in the College of Law. Extensive seasonal travel (some overnight) to represent the College of Law at various recruiting events is required of this position.

Characteristic Duties

  • Communicates with prospective law school candidates by telephone, e-mail, and face-to-face interaction
  • Conducts public speaking engagements involving large and small groups of people
  • Implements diversity objectives as they relate to recruiting and outreach
  • Assists with the development and generation of electronic and printed marketing tools
  • Assists with the coordination of all on-and-off campus recruiting events
  • Promotes and cultivates relationships/partnerships with area high schools, college pre-law advisors and student organizations as well as College of Law alumni, faculty, students, administrators and members of the legal community
  • Assumes a leadership role on the College of Law’s Diversity Committee and other service opportunities as designated by the Associate Dean, Director of Admissions
  • Maintains the College of Law’s Diversity webpage by providing updated information to content manager
  • Reviews a high volume of application files/counsels prospective law students
  • Provides a leadership role in managing international applicants and LL.M. application files
  • Prepares spreadsheet data, reports, and specified relevant documents
  • Takes assertive ownership of departmental goals and diversity initiatives
  • Assumes a proactive role in assisting the Associate Dean, Director of Admissions with monitoring and analyzing national and regional application trends as well as applicant and enrollment data within the College of Law
  • Travels extensively (seasonal/overnight) and appears at various recruiting events

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; at least two years of experience with higher education admissions and recruitment or comparable administrative work experience involving a high level of professional responsibility; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; a positive attitude; ability to work independently and collaboratively; excellent ability to multitask and prioritize large projects successfully; demonstrated experience with event programming/coordinating; ability to implement innovative ideas; ability to travel by car and air; excellent verbal and written communication skills including high comfort level with regard to public speaking; strong computer skills including proficiency in ability to produce reports and documents via MS Excel, Word and other programs as identified by the Associate Dean, Director of Admissions; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people located both internally and externally to the university; ability to work weekends and evenings.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in higher education; J.D. or 4 years of higher education admissions and recruiting experience with a proven record of increasing enrollment and diversity numbers; knowledge of web content management and ACES2 is a plus.
