Position Summary

The Department Assistant II reports to the Administrative Coordinator for Faculty Development and is responsible for providing faculty administrative and clerical support through the Faculty Support Center.

Characteristic Duties

  • Prepares mid-term and final exam materials as assigned
  • Assists with moderating requests for room reservations; maintains copiers; stocks office supplies
  • Provides clerical support for Study Abroad and other programs and committees, including Faculty Appointments Committee, as assigned
  • Creates purchase orders, prints reports and performs other functions in University Colleague system
  • Annually updates event marketing lists
  • Assists faculty with operation of classroom technology and recording
  • Provides support to faculty on use of Word and Excel
  • Updates faculty web pages
  • Provides backup coverage for College of Law main phone line
  • Sorts and distributes mail for law faculty, staff and students
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Specialized secretarial/clerical training which may be obtained through a high school, vocational, technical, or business school; two to three years of administrative experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent grammatical, vocabulary, formatting and proofreading skills for composition and presentation of materials; ability to interact tactfully with faculty, staff and students; excellent telephone/communication skills; generally requires a minimum score of 70% on University Prove-It testing software for Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Utilization of the University Colleague system; familiarity with the Internet; ability to create detailed documents, spreadsheets, and databases; working knowledge of, or skills in, programs such as PowerPoint and Excel.
