Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse reports to the Advanced Practice Provider and provides direct patient care in a clinic setting. The LPN works with physicians and nurses in the assessment and treatment of acute illnesses and injuries; performs phlebotomy and laboratory testing; administers immunizations and allergy injections; as well as other clinical duties. Health education is a key component and involves excellent communication skills working with a diverse population. Confidentiality is required in accordance with standards of practice and state and federal laws. Hours for this position will be 8 to 5 – Monday through Friday (12 months).

Characteristic Duties

  • Provides professional quality health services to students and employees
  • Works cooperatively with providers and staff as a vital member of the care team to provide comprehensive medical services
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physician or advanced practice provider in accordance with Oklahoma Nursing Guidelines
  • Administers immunizations and allergy injections
  • Performs phlebotomy per orders and processes lab specimens according to the standards outlined by CLIA
  • Performs CLIA-waived laboratory tests as ordered following lab procedures
  • Assists in minor office procedures
  • Maintains adequate inventory of medications and supplies
  • Maintains exam rooms, equipment, and instruments as directed
  • Assists in planning, implementation, and evaluation of health and wellness programs for the TU Community, as well as the Tulsa Community at large
  • Communicates effectively with a diverse patient population
  • Transitions between Hurricane Health Clinic and Alexander Health Center as needed providing the highest level of care to patients in both settings
  • Educates patient regarding health condition and provides written materials when appropriate
  • Adheres to ethical standards of practice and confidentiality in compliance with Oklahoma Board of Nursing, HIPAA, and policy/procedures of the University of Tulsa Health System
  • Performs related duties as required and assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Oklahoma LPN license with current BLS/AED certification; minimum of three years of work experience in an emergency or ambulatory care setting; up-to-date vaccination records and PPD required

Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience in caring for patients through the lifespan from birth to geriatrics; knowledge of OSIS and Vaccine Compliance desirable; considerable experience working with EMR and inventory monitoring preferred
