Position Summary

The Photographer/Visual Resource Manager for Gilcrease Museum reports to The University of Tulsa’s Director of Marketing and Communications and provides photography and videography for museum and university events, including exhibits, activities and museum/campus life. These photos and videos will be used in publications, periodicals, digital communications (including the museum website), social media or other promotional outlets deemed necessary to the mission of the museum and university. This position provides visual resources support to Gilcrease Museum and the TU Office of Institutional Advancement as it pertains to graphic design, advertising, fundraising, stewardship and public relations.

Characteristic Duties

  • Creates original digital content to achieve museum and university missions
  • Makes recommendations on content strategies to support programs and priorities and collaborates with colleagues to achieve stated goals
  • Schedules and provides photo/video services, either in-studio or on-location for the museum and for university clients, including capturing images and editing them into a final product
  • Plans multimedia projects and identifies emerging trends in visual media
  • Manages the Instagram account for Gilcrease and contributes to the museum’s Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Builds and maintains photo files and digital catalogs of images for the museum and university
  • Serves in the role of storyteller for video content that elevates the museum’s profile and promotes Gilcrease and TU events, seeing projects through from idea inception and organizing shoots to post-production editing and distribution to team members
  • Transitions smoothly between print, digital and social platforms
  • Participates daily as a creative member of the communications and marketing team at the museum – as well as at the university as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; five years of commercial photography and videography experience; proficiency in digital imaging, Photoshop and video-editing software required; must be creative, flexible and people-oriented; ability to meet deadlines, execute multiple projects concurrently, and work independently as well as a member of a team; some weekend and evening work required

Preferred Qualifications

Ten years professional photography experience; event photography experience a plus
