The University of Tulsa’s variety of investment competition events provides students with the opportunity to engage in real-world financial analysis and decision-making. Participants work in teams to solve complex investment problems, gaining practical experience and insight into the financial markets, while competing against peers to showcase their skills in entrepreneurship, portfolio management, and strategy development.
Investment Competitions
Investment Portfolio Challenge
How does it work?
With a team, students will prepare and present ways to improve an existing equity portfolio by considering risk tolerance, sector composition, economic conditions and fundamental analysis for a hypothetical $6 million investment portfolio. Each team’s presentations will then be judged by a panel of industry representatives prior to the event.
During the live event, teams will participate in a 25-minute Q&A with judges, faculty advisors, and the general audience. Teams will be scored on both their presentations and responses to questions.
Prizes
- 1st place: $10,000
- 2nd place: $5,000
- 3rd place: $2,500
Forming a team
Teams must be sponsored by a university or college. Up to two teams may represent an institution on presentation day. Schools are invited to submit more than three teams through a virtual tournament which takes place 10 days before presentation day. Schools are automatically registered for the virtual tournament once they register over two teams on the registration site.
Each team:
- Must consist of undergraduate and/or graduate students.
- Must have no fewer than three and no more than six members.
- May have one faculty adviser who is currently employed by the team’s institution.
Team members must:
- Be a currently enrolled student in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Be registered for at least a part-time course load.
