The Chemical Engineering Advisory Board, established in 1979, was one of the first advisory boards within The University of Tulsa’s College of Engineering & Natural Sciences, now known as the College of Engineering & Computer Science. The board originally included 10 members and has expanded to 28 members over the years. With a few exceptions, the board is composed of successful alumni who are dedicated to supporting our department and the university as a whole. The board meets formally twice per year, once in the fall and once in the spring. The meeting includes a lunch where undergraduate and graduate students are invited to share their thoughts and concerns about the chemical engineering program. Following the lunch, the chemical engineering chair, the college dean, and representatives from institutional advancement provide updates on the department, college, and university.

This loyal, supportive, and generous group of board members has significantly contributed to the growth and success of the department. Their contributions include naming the school, funding the college’s first departmental computer lab in 1991, providing equipment for the unit operations lab, endowing two chaired professorships, establishing two provost-level endowed scholarships, creating three endowment funds for the department, and initiating numerous other scholarship funds. Beyond their financial support, they play a vital role in keeping the curriculum current by incorporating safety measures, integrating computing skills, and reviewing program educational objectives to ensure alignment with ABET accreditation standards.
