Kinesiology & Rehabilitative Sciences Research

Faculty and students within the Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitative Sciences are actively engaged in research on the human body. Students are encouraged to assist faculty with ongoing research projects or develop and answer unique research questions by participating in the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge (TURC) or completing faculty-led independent studies for academic credit.
Meaningful opportunities exist for all students to bolster their reputation as future scholars or expand their basic understanding of the research process. Students in our undergraduate program have presented research findings at regional and national conferences and co-authored manuscripts in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Specific areas of faculty research include:
- Monitoring and reducing injury risk in the fire and rescue field
- Assessing cardiopulmonary contributions to fire suppression tasks
- Health-related fitness outcomes for cadet and career firefighters
- Wearable device technology to assess physical behavior (i.e., physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep)
- Interprofessional collaborative education/practice
- Assessment, rehabilitation, and outcomes associated with mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI)
