Seymour Lecture series was established by more than 50 of Judge Seymour’s former law clerks to celebrate her career and honor a legacy defined by her commitment to opportunity for the best and brightest law graduates. Judge Stephanie K. Seymour Lecture Maria Kolar
Maria Kolar joined the Oklahoma City University School of Law faculty in 2020 after five years teaching Legal Research and Writing at the University of Oklahoma College of Law and two years in the Homicide Direct Appeals Division of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System. A graduate of Notre Dame, Emory and Yale Law School, Kolar clerked for Judge Joel M. Flaum on the Seventh Circuit before nearly 15 years clerking for the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, focusing on capital habeas corpus cases. She served on the bipartisan Oklahoma Death Penalty Review Commission, whose 2017 report called for a moratorium on the death penalty pending reform, and her scholarship examines justice and fairness in criminal law, including the jury’s role in death penalty sentencing and the felony murder rule.
