The Public Interest Board (PIB) at UTulsa Law is a student-run organization dedicated to fostering community service, public service, and pro bono work among law students throughout their legal education. Each student automatically becomes a PIB member upon enrollment and is encouraged to complete 60 or more hours of community service in underserved and underrepresented areas before graduation to qualify for service honors.
Each year PIB collaborates with the Student Bar Association and other various student organizations to organize, schedule, and execute service-oriented events. Throughout the year, PIB spearheads fundraising initiatives for the Summer Stipend Program. In Spring 2024, PIB successfully organized a fundraising event featuring a local country musician to support this program. Looking ahead to September 2024, PIB will host the first Annual Trivia Night, inviting students and local law firms to compete amongst one another.
The University of Tulsa College of Law wholeheartedly believes in instilling a life-long commitment to public service by assisting clients with unmet legal needs. Students participate in numerous public service events held throughout the year. Additionally, the Summer Stipend Program offers financial support to UTulsa Law students working under an attorney in public interest positions who volunteer or make nominal wages during the summer break. This stipend is designed to assist with living and other expenses. All UTulsa Law students working in a public interest position over the summer and returning to UTulsa Law in the fall are eligible to apply for this stipend, which was specifically designed to assist with the financial hardship by serving the legal needs of the underserved and underrepresented.
