Launched in 2021, Pathway to Sports Academy was designed to create opportunities for students to obtain practical skills and experiences in preparation for a career in the sports industry. Pathway to Sports Academy will give you a direct look into the world of college athletics and beyond.

    Academic Advisor
    Provides academic coaching/counseling to student-athletes, monitors academic progress, and NCAA academic eligibility requirements. Provides academic support referrals to tutoring and mentoring services within department and on-campus for student-athletes. Department also offers a full student-athlete development program that focuses on personal, career and leadership development, in which all staff members contribute.

    Administration
    Interact with athletics department administrative and coaching staffs in the development of position descriptions and assist in the recruitment and hiring process. Assist in planning various department staff events and meetings.

    Athletic Trainer
    Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state’s statutes, rules and regulations. As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

    Business Operations
    Business operations management includes all aspects of managing an operational budget. Items included are budget development and management, purchasing, reporting and reconciliation.

    Coaching (Equipment Operations)
    Will work under the Equipment Operations pathway while earning and learning valuable skills pertinent to coaching. This includes taking courses towards the University’s coaching or sports management certificates, local and national seminars, as well as various other forms of supplemental work.

    Compliance Administrator
    Responsible for institutional control of NCAA Compliance. Including monitoring systems that assist the University in complying with all University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations governing the intercollegiate athletics operations. Coordinate and direct coaches and monitor the recruitment, admission and initial eligibility of prospects in all sports programs.

    Data Analytics (Ticket Sales)
    Assist ticket sales team with season, group and single-game sales and activation. Provide data analytics and lead generation for our ticket sales team to help guide our sales team in generating revenue.

    Donor Relations & Engagement
    Assist in developing and managing portfolios consisting of annual donors and prospects, which includes identifying new prospects, cultivating current/prospective donors, soliciting annual and capital gifts as well as stewarding current/new donors. Assist on game days at the Donor Tailgate and Terrace locations with event set-up/breakdown, cultivating and building relationships with donors.

    Equipment Operations
    Equipment Operation Student Managers assist the TU varsity athletics teams in many aspects associated with each program and are an integral part of the team’s success including practice and game-day preparation and assistance, equipment management/organization, stats and administrative duties which could include ordering, inventory, and procurement of athletic equipment, while learning valuable budgeting, time management and business-related skills.

    Event Management & Operations
    Planning and execution of all athletic related home events. Primary focus will be on organization of various contributing groups involved in game day activities; with an emphasis on customer relations.

    Graphic Designer
    Assist in designing promotional and/or team related graphics for The University of Tulsa Athletic Department. This includes, but is not limited to, content creation to increase brand awareness and affinity for The University of Tulsa Athletic Department and their 17 Varsity Sports.

    Learning Specialist
    Learning Specialists identify skills strengths and weaknesses for student-athletes with diagnosed learning disabilities as well as those students who enter the university underprepared for college-level work in order to provide intensive intervention strategies to help encourage academic progress.

    Multimedia Specialist
    Assist in video production relating to live video board presentations & webcasts, reporting- including on air talent & possible post production, along with creating both audio and video social media content. This prepares the student for a possible career in TV/Radio/Internet multi-media production.

    Operations – Sport Specific
    Perform administrative functions and assist with day-to-day operations, included but not limited to program’s recruiting, team travel, camps and student-athlete experience.

    Public Relations
    Assists with publicity and media operations of 17 intercollegiate sports. Work directly with a particular sport in a complete media relations role. Duties include writing press releases and feature stories, compiling game note packages, game day media operations, social media, photography, game statistics-keeping and desktop publishing.

    Sports Marketing
    Assist in the planning and implementation of The University of Tulsa athletics marketing plans. Develop and implement promotional ideas and tactics to increase attendance and interest for TU varsity athletic events.

    Sports Performance Dietitian
    Work closely with the Sports Nutrition Staff and Strength and Conditioning Staff in supporting the athletic and nutritional goals of coaches and players. Within this collaborative group they will work to advance the overall objective of meeting the sports performance goals across all TU intercollegiate sport teams.

    Strength & Conditioning Coach
    Work with TU student-athletes, coaches and support staff members on a daily basis to prepare individuals with the knowledge and work experience necessary to become a certified strength and conditioning professional upon graduation. Individuals will gain day-to-day experience with the athletic performance staff specifically, while also working with the sports medicine staff, sport coaching staffs and sports nutrition staff.

    Student-Athlete Development
    Assist with initiatives for our Student-Athlete Development program. Includes event planning, attending meetings and advertising events.

    Ticket Office Representative
    Perform functions in the day-to-day operations within the ticket office. Customer interaction, ticket processing and database management.

    Video Operations – Football
    Provide coaches film by filming practices and games, importing and editing film.
