University enrollment

Does not apply to the Intensive English Program
After submitting the International Intent to Enroll form and enrollment deposit, your student will be contacted by an admission officer regarding enrollment instructions. Classes will be selected by an academic advisor according to the degree plan required by each major. Tuition will be billed to your student’s account based on enrollment. If there is a change of plans and your student needs to cancel enrollment, you must notify the university in writing before the first day of class to cancel all charges.

Intensive English Enrollment

If your student will attend the Intensive English Program, enrollment will be completed after the placement test, August 23.

Math placement test

Does not apply to the Intensive English Program
All new students must take an online math placement test. The results are used to select the most suitable math class for your student. The math test is available online. Students may take the test up to three times. Practice modules are available after the first attempt. Students should do their best and take this test on their own, without any outside help, in order to get the most accurate result. It is best to complete this test before the class schedule is finalized.

New student orientation

University and Pathway Students
University students are expected to attend StartTU: New Student Orientation, which takes place August 18-23 before classes begin. Orientation is a week-long experience loaded with great fun, helpful information, amazing memories, and new friends. Each student is placed in a small group and paired with a veteran, proven student orientation leader who is committed to helping students get off to a great start in their first year.
International students have two options for the first part of orientation:
TU’s on-campus “New to the U.S.” program is presented by the International Student Services office and offers informative sessions about immigration and cultural adjustment. It prepares your student to succeed academically and adjust socially in the United States. Your student also will get a better understanding of U.S. laws and regulations and will find opportunities to begin friendships with both international and American students.

TU’s off-campus “Dry Gulch” overnight experience takes students to the shores of Lake Hudson, about an hour outside of Tulsa. Students reside in climate-controlled lodging and participate in activities such as arcade games, go-carting, art and nature projects, sand volleyball, and much more. This is suitable for students who are very familiar with life in the United States and already feel very comfortable with U.S. academic and social culture.
Register for orientation here, under the New Student menu. Your student will need his or her TU Net ID to log in. Parents are welcome to accompany students on move-in day (August 18) and participate in a number of activities.
Intensive English Program Students Students attending the Intensive English Program (IEP) will participate in the IEP orientation during the first week of class beginning August 26. No registration is needed.

Travel plans

Book flights to Tulsa International Airport, code TUL. We recommend arriving in Tulsa on August 17 or 18. Students attending orientation may check into their room beginning August 18. University students who do not attend orientation will not be able to check into their room until August 24. Intensive English Program students may check into their room on August 22. Students who arrive before the approved check-in date should plan to stay in a hotel until the residence hall is open. Parents who accompany students must also stay in a hotel. A list of suggested local hotels is available online.

Required immunizations

Oklahoma State Law requires students to provide proof of immunization for certain diseases. Information about required immunizations is included in your student’s admission packet and also online. Make sure your student has completed the required immunizations before school begins. Submit a copy of immunization records directly to the TU Alexander Health Center, and prepare a copy for your student to bring to school.
