Spring class registration
Your student will meet with an academic advisor before selecting courses for the spring semester. If any scheduled payments are late, the student will have a “hold” and may not enroll until the amount due is paid. Sometimes students are surprised to learn they have a “hold.” The overdue amount may be something small that the student has forgotten, such as a parking ticket or lost room key. Your student can check the account balance online to make sure there will be no delay to enrollment.
Daylight savings time ends
In early November, the U.S. will set clocks backward by one hour. When you schedule calls with your student, don’t forget the time has changed!
International Bazaar
November is the month of International Education Week and our Association of International Students (AIS) commemorates this annually with the International Bazaar, a celebration of the many cultures represented at The University of Tulsa. Student organizations present artifacts and traditions and serve cuisine from various regions of the world, followed by a Parade of Nations and other performances. One of the most widely attended international events on campus, the International Bazaar features a new theme each year. Recent themes have included a night market, a carnival, and a flight around the world.
U.S. holiday season begins
From November until the end of December, many people in the U.S. will be celebrating the holiday season, which includes the American Thanksgiving, as well as Christmas. In the U.S. this is considered a time to be together with family and friends and to show care for others by giving and serving. The university and campus organizations often arrange special meals or events at this time of year. These will be announced on university video boards, email, and social media. Students are very busy in November with projects, papers, studying, and looking forward to the upcoming school breaks!
Plan for Thanksgiving break
TU students get a full week off in November for the Thanksgiving break. During this time, the dining hall and all food services on campus are closed. We recommend that your student make plans to visit friends or take the opportunity to travel during this time. Students are allowed to stay in the residence hall during Thanksgiving break, but they will need to go outside campus for meals.
Plan for winter break
November is a good time to decide on your student’s winter break plans. Most residence halls will close on December 20. A limited number of rooms are available for an additional cost during winter break. Students who need to stay on campus at any time during the break must make arrangements in advance with the campus housing office. Winter break room assignments may require the student to move temporarily to a different residence hall. No food services are available on campus during the break. We strongly encourage students to travel or visit family and friends during this time. Winter break is three weeks long and many students choose to return home for vacation.
