Believed to have originated in the early 15th century at Oxford University, the baccalaureate service is religious in nature providing the opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate the significance of the rite of passage expressed through graduation. At The University of Tulsa, baccalaureate begins the celebratory festivities of the commencement weekend and is held in the beautiful and stately sanctuary of Sharp Memorial Chapel. Graduates are invited to wear their caps and gowns. Family and friends are welcome.
Located on the south lawn of Sharp Chapel immediately following the baccalaureate ceremony.
Final Bell Party
Please join the TU Alumni Association and the Future Alumni Council for a party to celebrate the graduating class. There will be alumni giveaways for graduates, live DJ entertainment and a photographer for the Bell Ringing.
Phi Beta Kappa
Phi Beta Kappa will hold its annual initiation ceremony. During the ceremony, initiates will be asked to take the Phi Beta Kappa pledge in unison. Chapter officers will give a short history of the society and of the Alpha Chapter. Each initiate will be introduced.
Sponsored by the Student Association and located at the Hyatt Downtown. Graduates may invite their family and friends to attend from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The most convenient place to park on the day of commencement is the Reynolds Center. There is a lot on the southeast side of the Reynolds Center and a lot on the northwest corner of 8th and Harvard. Both are available for visitor parking during the event.
