Coronavirus Update: Classes Now Online (faculty email) — March 10, 2020

Dear TU colleagues,

The University of Tulsa is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) and working with the Tulsa Health Department. As of Tuesday, March 10, two cases of the disease have been confirmed in Tulsa County, one of which is a family member of a student.

In light of these developments, TU is implementing its social distancing policy, effective Wednesday, March 11. We believe this decision is in the best interest of our students and employees as we aim to reduce the risk of exposure for all members of our community while continuing to fulfill our educational mission.

Social distancing is a public health action that limits exposure to communicable diseases by restricting person-to-person contact by changing the ways university business and activities are conducted.

To facilitate social distancing, all classes will move to virtual instruction beginning Wednesday, March 11. To access virtual instruction, go to https://harvey.utulsa.edu or access via the TU portal.

  • Faculty have received guidance and recommendations for virtual delivery methods for their courses. The Faculty Resource Center (FRC) will provide support to faculty including instructional strategies, available tools and recommended best practices. Contact frc-help@utulsa.edu for assistance. The FRC can also be accessed through Harvey.
  • If you need technical equipment and/or remote desktop access, please submit a help ticket to help@utulsa.edu.
  • Given the likelihood of significant disruptions to life on campus, please encourage students to go home and remain off campus until at least April 5 if they are able.
  • Students who remain on campus should expect to receive instruction remotely. Arrangements have been made to provide dining services.
  • More information about the status of on-campus activities (athletic practices, speaking events, etc.) will be shared as decisions are made.
  • Campus is not closed, and this announcement does not affect or extend spring break, March 16-20. Classes will resume online on March 23. Some employees may be working from home until further notice.

We believe these are the appropriate and prudent steps in light of the information currently available to us. As this situation evolves, we will continue to send updates and post them at utulsa.edu/coronavirus.

Sincerely,

Janet K. Levit

Interim President
