COVID-19 Testing for Students (student email)

TU students,

The University of Tulsa is requiring all students who will reside in TU housing and/or attend in-person classes to be tested for COVID-19 before coming to campus for the fall 2020 term. Students may take any COVID-19 test approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and then must upload proof of a negative test result to the secure TU Patient Portal on the Alexander Health Center website. Students residing in campus housing must have their negative test result uploaded to the portal before move-in; students living off campus must have their negative test result uploaded to the portal prior to attending in-person classes or in-person activities on campus. As such, students should be tested at least 10 business days before their intended arrival on campus.

The U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Department has determined that a public health crisis exists and has extended guidance that all forms of public and private insurance, including self-funded plans, must cover costs associated with FDA-approved COVID-19 tests. HHS has published a list of community-based no-cost testing locations across the country.

Students who test positive:

  • must delay their move-in date
  • must attend classes virtually until medically cleared to resume in-person activities on campus
  • should self-isolate at their off-campus residence until cleared to travel by local health authorities

Students who arrive for move-in without a negative test result uploaded to the TU Patient Portal will need to be tested at Alexander Health Center or an off-campus testing site and wait for results before proceeding with move-in.

While students traveling to TU this fall should be tested before arriving on campus, students already living on campus or in the Tulsa area may call Alexander Health Center at 918-631-2241 to schedule an appointment for a no-cost test.

Questions regarding this policy or requests for additional information should be emailed to TU’s COVID-19 Risk Assessment Team at covid19@utulsa.edu. We will address your concerns regarding our Safe Return to Campus plan during a virtual town hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep our TU community healthy. Your well-being is our top priority, and I look forward to welcoming you back to campus.

Sincerely,

Casey Reed
Senior Vice Provost of Enrollment Management
