COVID-19 Presumptive Positive Test (employee email) – April 3, 2020

TU community,

We take the welfare and safety of our students and employees very seriously, therefore we are writing to inform you of a recent development relating to COVID-19.

The University of Tulsa Crisis Management Team learned this afternoon of a student living in a campus apartment who has received a presumptive positive result for a COVID-19 test. As a result, this individual has begun working with TU health officials and is receiving medical attention off campus. In addition, we have notified those individuals known to us who have been in direct contact with the student. We understand that this is a difficult situation and ask that you respect the privacy of those affected during what is a difficult time.

All of the affected individuals have been quarantined and steps are being taken to amplify cleaning protocols. We will continue to take action to protect the health and safety of our community.

In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, we request your immediate attention to and compliance with the following practices – not only to ensure your own well-being, but the well-being of others:

  • Follow government mandates around travel, work and leaving your home.
  • Engage in social distancing. Stay clear from others (at least 6 feet).
  • Do not sponsor or participate in any public or private events or social gatherings outside of a family or living unit.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Watch for cough, troubled breathing or other signs of respiratory distress.
  • Monitor temperature for a fever above 100.4 degrees.

If you develop a cough or fever or have difficulty breathing, call your primary care provider or the Hurricane Health Clinic at 918-631-2827. The Oklahoma State Department of Health also offers useful information and a COVID-19 hotline at 877-215-8336. Furthermore, we remind students, faculty and staff of the importance of complying with City of Tulsa orders to protect our entire community.

Please know that we receive daily updated guidance and information to determine appropriate action. This is not a time to panic. It is, however, a time to be serious and engaged regarding the steps we must take as a community to care for ourselves and each other. Please be attentive to TU communications regarding the pandemic and additional steps we will take to address this ongoing crisis.
