Professor Leah Gilbert brings nearly two decades of clinical and educational experience to her role at The University of Tulsa. She began her nursing career as a labor and delivery bedside nurse, establishing a strong foundation in women’s health and patient-centered care.
She earned her master of science in nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 2016 while simultaneously serving as a hospital educator, demonstrating an early commitment to both clinical excellence and teaching. Gilbert is nationally certified in Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring and serves as an instructor for the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), contributing to the advancement of professional standards in maternal and neonatal care. She also holds a leadership position in the local chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Gilbert joined The University of Tulsa initially as a clinical adjunct in 2018 and transitioned to a full-time faculty position in 2023. Her clinical expertise is rooted in women’s and children’s services, including labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn and women’s health education.
At UTulsa, Gilbert is dedicated to preparing the next generation of nurses through developing and teaching maternal child courses for both the ABSN and traditional BSN programs. Her work reflects a strong commitment to improving outcomes for women, children and families through both education and practice. Gilbert believes that it is a privilege to be a part of each student’s journey to becoming a nurse and works to build a teaching environment that supports a spirit of inquiry and excellence.
