DNP program top ranked in Oklahoma for 2023

University of Tulsa Doctor of Nursing Practice studentsOne of the more recent additions to the graduate program line-up at The University of Tulsa, the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree was named the highest ranked such program in the state of Oklahoma on Tuesday, according to the 2023 U.S. News & World Report grad school profiles. This is the first year TU has sought to be included in the prestigious rankings, which rated the program 109th in the nation.

“When we started the DNP program in 2017, we wanted to develop a quality program that would allow us to prepare nurse practitioners to meet the health care needs in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the surrounding areas,” said Oxley College of Health Sciences Dean Robin Ploeger. “Our graduates are well prepared for their careers and are making an impact in the clinics and communities in which they serve. The success of our DNP students aligns with our college mission and is evident across all our programs.”

TU’s DNP programs provide rigorous didactic and clinical experiences that prepare nurses to provide care and lead change into the future. TU offers four cutting-edge advanced practice nursing graduate programs that culminate with the DNP degree:

  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP)
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
  • Nurse Anesthesia (NA)
  • Post-Master’s to DNP

These programs are taught by practicing experts in their fields. Students learn through active experiences using state-of-the-art human patient simulation and hands-on facilitated onsite clinical experiences. Students are matched with faculty and preceptors who promote their development and allow students to concentrate on learning.

“We are excited that our DNP programs are now nationally ranked,” said TU School of Nursing Director Bill Buron, Ph.D. “Considering our dedicated faculty, exceptional experiential learning and a 100% first-time certification pass rate, we anticipate further improvement in our rankings as our programs continue to grow.  We are proud of our outstanding DNP graduates and the leadership they provide in today’s often-complex health care system.”
