Dear TU colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that, after a wide-ranging national search, Barbara Abercrombie has accepted the position of vice president and chief human resources officer at The University of Tulsa. Her first day at TU is Oct. 1.
Barbara brings with her more than 18 years of experience in a higher education setting. For the past two years, she served as the vice chancellor for organizational effectiveness and chief human capital officer at the University of North Texas System. Prior to that, she held related senior positions at Texas A&M University in College Station, the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa.
As we interviewed Barbara, one of her many qualities that stood out for me was the conviction that organizational resilience and effectiveness require a systematic approach aimed at enhancing a university’s performance through its people. Her senior roles in higher education human resources have taught her the critical importance of focusing on individual employee development and team performance, twin objectives wholeheartedly embraced on our campus.
I hope that you will join me in welcoming Barbara to our wonderful community of students, faculty and staff. As an expert in collaborative leadership, a thoughtful communicator and someone who is focused on first-rate customer service, she will be a significant asset in TU’s future.
