IT Tips of the Day: I keep losing my connection to … (faculty and staff email) — March 24, 2020

Good morning, TU.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned today, it’s that the advice included in an article shared with me last week by Executive Director of TU’s Student Success Center Mandy Moore is accurate: “We cannot rely on synchronous instruction during a pandemic.” Read the full article here.

It’s a different way of looking at learning, but it’s where we are right now with this pandemic. I’ve been trying to normalize my children’s at-home schedule with their school schedule. It’s fruitless. We are in uncharted territory and normalizing is not possible. The less synchronous you are in classes and business support, the more streamlined the interaction will be — for all involved.

If Harvey/Blackboard is having issues, you will see it here 24/7: Our Blackboard environment is hosted off-campus, so the official Blackboard status is our status. Remember that none of these providers expected the national stampede to virtual learning by nearly all of higher ed when COVID-19 hit. They truly are working hard to right-fit our nation.

How to fix today’s top issues:

  1. Get assistance mapping to Shared Space, X Drive and One Drive.
  2. Download Microsoft Teams here, then log in with TU credentials, or log in directly here.
  3. IT is working on a solution for admin rights to add VPN.
  4. If you encounter the spinning purple circle when clicking on Collaborate, follow the instructions in this link; you must enable third-party cookies for the Collaborate site.

Our team is here to support you. Thank you for your resilience and grace in facing these challenges. In IT, we are honored to serve as a helping hand and even an occasional shoulder to cry on.

Stay healthy,
