The Admission Counselor reports to a member of the Admission leadership team and is an entry-level position for the Office of Admission. Specific responsibilities include: extensive personal contact with prospective students; identifying and recruiting students meeting the desired admission qualifications of the University; working with parents, high school guidance counselors, and alumni; and assisting in application review. This position will serve as a positive representative of The University of Tulsa, both on and off campus. The Admission Counselor communicates with prospective students through in-person appointments, phone calls, text messaging, mailed postcards and emails, and will frequently make presentations and attend special events during evenings and weekends. Extensive travel in-and-out of state in designated areas for approximately twelve weeks during the academic year will be required.
Bachelor’s degree, current driver’s license and excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to travel to remote locations and to load and transport admissions materials; some evening and weekend hours required, especially during the travel season; strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills; excellent writing and public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations; must be able to represent the admissions profession positively through a strong, student-centered ethic.
Previous experience working in an admission university setting or admission related experience; experience coordinating programs; demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
