Position Summary

The Refining Technologies Operator/Technician will assist in experimental research activities and the operation of several test facilities that consists of small scale reactors and pilot units to collect and process experimental data. Specific responsibilities include setting up and conducting research experiments; operating the pilot and bench scale test facilities, collecting, processing and reporting experimental data, keeping logs of data and experimental observations; troubleshooting and maintaining a research facility including ancillary equipment, control systems and instrumentation; make decisions and solve problems to preserve the integrity of research data; supporting graduate students with experimental research projects; and maintaining an adequate inventory of consumables and spare parts to ensure normal uninterrupted use of facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Three to five years’ work experience; experience in maintenance of pumps, compressors and process instrumentation; mechanical aptitude and basic plumbing, and electronic skills; capable of developing operating procedures; experience with hydrocarbon liquid, solids and gas handling; ability to work independently without close supervision; demonstrated safe working practices in compliance with OSHA and EPA requirements; ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, students and staff; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Six years’ work experience; Bachelor’s degree in a science field; experience working/thriving in a diverse team; experience in oil and gas field.  Welding experience a plus.


8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; some swing shift may be required during testing.
