The School of Art, Design and Art History at The University of Tulsa seeks applications for a full-time two-year visiting position in the area of Graphic Design, beginning in either January 2021 or August 2021. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience, teaching, and current professional status.

The ideal candidate will teach undergraduate level courses in foundations and in the area of concentration, mentor students within the context of an interdisciplinary art and design school, and advise students in a tutorial environment. Primary teaching responsibilities include all introductory and upper level graphic design courses and serving as Creative Director for Third Floor Design, an in-house student-centered design studio that, for the past 30 years, has provided pro-bono work to non-profit organizations across the region. The position also requires teaching a course in the foundations core as needed. The position carries a 3:3 teaching load and the expectation of service to the department and the non-profit community (through Third Floor Design). In addition to our Art and Design majors, Graphic Design courses may also interest students from Advertising, Film, Media Studies, and Computer Simulation and Gaming. The candidate will maintain facilities, keep an active professional practice, and participate in the University community.

MFA or other terminal degree required, professional experience, and teaching experience beyond the TA level is preferred. Strong candidates will have some experience developing new courses that engage with contemporary practices, techniques, and issues in the fields of UX and UI design, animation, gaming, innovation, and creativity. Candidates must also be able to communicate with students on multiple levels, and a display an eagerness to teach in and develop undergraduate programs is essential. Applicants should have an active art/design or industry practice and teaching experience in two or more of the following areas: typography, print design, package design, advertising and branding design, UX/UI design, design thinking, or professional practice. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching and to fostering the creative growth of undergraduates, and an enthusiasm for contributing to the university community. Service responsibilities include student mentoring and aiding in the management of classroom equipment and resources. The successful applicant must meet eligibility requirements to work within the United States.
