TU fraternity receives Award of Chapter Excellence

The University of Tulsa’s branch of Kappa Sigma, Epsilon-Mu, has been awarded a Kappa Sigma Founders’ Award of Chapter Excellence. This honor, which officially names Epsilon-Mu as one of the fraternity’s top chapters in America, was presented to only 30 Kappa Sigma chapters in 2020.

During the 2019-20 academic year, the 58 students belonging to TU’s Kappa Sigma chapter achieved the following milestones:

  • Engaged in more than 4,800 hours of community service
  • Raised more than $22,000 for charitable causes
  • Raised $2,900 for the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign, which is committed to supporting ongoing care for military veterans and their families
  • Raised more than $12,000 for its Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund Chapter Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to chapter members based on academic achievement, campus involvement and leadership within Kappa Sigma

Eric Aplis, president of TU’s Kappa Sigma chapter, said that overcoming adversity was the most important thing last semester: “Having to make the switch from a normal semester to an online semester was vital to our progress. We had to overcome a lot to make sure we were still able to donate enough time and money to organizations that we work with.” Aplis called the work his fraternity brothers accomplished last semester “something pretty impressive to see.”
