Letter from the Interim President (employee email)

Dear colleagues,

This past year, serving as TU’s interim president has been the most rewarding, challenging and intellectually stimulating year of my professional life. I was honored to have been asked to step into this role when former President Clancy stepped down at the end of January last year, and I was honored again to be asked to become a finalist for the on-going search for the next permanent president of The University of Tulsa. I have, however, declined to be considered.

The University of Tulsa is at a strategic juncture, and it is clear to me that it is time for a new strategic plan and a new leader to carry this institution forward. I endorsed the decision to conduct a national search for the next president, and I still believe fundamentally it is in the best interests of this institution.

The presidential search is on-going and, as I understand it, nearing the final stages with a number of highly qualified and exciting candidates under consideration. For my part, I look forward to doing everything I can to support a smooth and seamless transition, and I have been asked to continue to serve as interim president until June 30 or until a permanent successor is in place. At that point, I do not plan to resume my role as provost but rather will return as a faculty member of the College of Law.

There will be time in the future to reflect on our past accomplishments and challenges. For now and for the next several months, there is much work to be done as we focus on rapidly implementing key parts of the new strategic plan. I feel extremely fortunate to have worked closely with so many of you and to have made friends that will last a lifetime. I love TU. I have dedicated my entire professional career to its success and am truly excited about what lies ahead for this great institution.
