2023-24 Kendall College of Arts & Sciences Honors & Awards

The Kendall College of Arts & Sciences offers a rigorous curriculum in the fine and performing arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.

Each year, departments and programs recognize students’ accomplishments and contributions to their field and to the life of the college, and those awardees for the 2023-24 academic year are celebrated here.

Congratulations to these graduating seniors and award recipients.

Meet the Kendall College Standard Bearer

Graduating senior Brooke Beirute (BA ’24) received her degree in elementary education and Spanish with a minor in psychology. Although she had not originally intended to complete a second major in Spanish, her classes were so enjoyable that adding it became an easy decision. “My classes have not only refined my Spanish, but also my appreciation for literature and culture,” she said. Meanwhile, her education and psychology coursework has prepared her both for the practical interactions and pedagogical decisions that she will encounter daily as a teacher.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Beirute has spent her free time at The University of Tulsa working with Baptist Collegiate Ministries and as a peer mentor. She wrapped up her last semester as a student teacher at Kendall-Whittier Elementary and Dolores Huerta Elementary in Tulsa Public Schools.

After graduation, Beirute will teach English, science, and the Bible to first- and second-graders at Sojourn Christian School in San José, Costa Rica. “Since I am a dual citizen in the USA and Costa Rica, this is an exciting way for me to get to know my family heritage while also applying my majors in elementary education and Spanish. I am grateful for these four years at The University of Tulsa and am looking forward to beginning my teaching career in Costa Rica.”

Beirute was selected to carry the gonfalon for Kendall College of Arts & Sciences at the 2024 Commencement Ceremony. Chosen by the dean, this honor recognizes a graduating senior’s exceptional academic achievements.
