On Sept. 25, The University of Tulsa’s Center for Global Engagement (CGE), in collaboration with Student Activities Board, hosted the annual Study Abroad Fair in the Student Union Great Hall, sharing information about travel courses and other study abroad opportunities with 268 students, representing nearly a 15% increase in attendance over the past two years.
Opportunities with direct exchange partners, third-party program providers and faculty-led travel courses were shared with students, providing almost 50 study abroad opportunities in global destinations such as Thailand, China, Japan, Peru, Mexico, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Australia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Two consistent barriers preventing students from studying abroad are finances and the lack of knowledge regarding the process. CGE staff shared information about the support provided through their office as well as financial resources available to help students fund their study abroad experience.
Last academic year, almost 300 UTulsa students studied abroad in more than 20 countries. On average, approximately 15 students also go abroad each year for exchange programs. In addition, CGE provides support to UTulsa’s 452 international students on campus, 33 of whom are visiting from direct exchange partners.
Students who were unable to attend the Study Abroad Fair can still learn about education abroad opportunities by visiting global.utulsa.edu or the CGE office, located on the third floor of Holmes Student Center.
