When I first came to TU, I was unsure about living so far from home and without my parents around. Then I moved into my dorm, and I was nervous. I had never lived outside of my state or even moved houses. However, the idea of living on my own and having my own space, total freedom was exciting. The whole thing was jarring at first, I didn’t know how it was going to work out. Then I had orientation week, which was amazing. I met most of my friends here at TU and had a great time. I was constantly out doing one thing or another having a blast. Each event was well planned, and it allowed me to get involved right off the bat where personally I wouldn’t have. It really kept my mind off the homesickness and allowed me to adjust to TU before classes even started. Getting to know a large group of people was fun but getting a feel for the university was the best part. One other thing I learned about was taking care of myself right. Managing my meals so I eat right, keeping up with things that were just automatic at home was interesting. I really value this time I had, and I hope others can have this same experience. I did learn about the importance of friends and going out to do stuff. In high school I was mostly I homebody and I didn’t do much, this experience was great for me to come out of my shell.
