The bonfire at the Old U is one of my favorite events every year. My freshmen year, my parents came to visit me for the first time since I had moved away from St. Louis. I was very excited to spend the weekend with them and show them around the campus. Before the bonfire, we had met up with my older brother and his wife and we walked over to Dietler Commons from his house. When we got to campus, I showed my parents around my new dorm room as well as introducing them to some of my friends that we ran into in Fisher South. We then adventured over to the bonfire as the festivities we going to begin soon. We found a good spot to observe from and met up with my roommate and his parents. I was very excited to see many of the new friends I had made and to be able to introduce them to my family. The bonfire was finally lit, and I was amazed at the size of the flame. We all watched in aw and enjoyed the time we were all spending together. Following the bonfire, they announced the homecoming king and queen as well as an amazing performance from the band. The event as a whole did an amazing job bringing families of TU together to meet. My family was very happy that we attended and now we have made it a family tradition to go and watch the lighting of the fire.
