University of Tulsa’s Center for Global Engagement (CGE) recently hosted the Global Graduates ceremony, which included three Gilman Scholarship recipients. Biological science senior Linnea Krautter, Jeff Luong (BS ’23), and Sian Tuang (BS ’23) landed a spot in the highly competitive scholarship program, allowing them to study abroad while earning their degree.
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students to gain proficiency in diverse languages and cultures, skills that are critically important to their academic and career development. By proving scholarships to worthy undergraduates, the program supports students who have been historically underrepresented in education abroad.
The ceremony also honored six graduates who received the Global Graduate Impact Award: Mahdy Alnejadah, Caroline Cox, Emma Daharsh, Tyler Tran, Cassie Vestal, and Iyan Smith Williams. This award recognizes their academic excellence, significant contributions to the TU community, and engagement with international communities, thereby establishing themselves as positive global influences.
All 70 international students that graduated in May received a special stole from CGE. The 60 students who studied abroad for more than three weeks also received a stole that represented the flag of the country where they traveled.
Over 200 attendees gathered for the celebration. Provost George Justice spoke about the value of studying in a new environment, and he and Vice Provost of Global Engagement Vivian Wang congratulated the students.
