China Travel — January 29, 2020

Colleagues,

In light of the recent coronavirus outbreak, the U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 3 travel advisory, which encourages anyone with plans to travel to China to reconsider until further notice. A Level 4 advisory, the highest level of caution, has been issued for Wuhan, Hubei Province, where the respiratory illness caused by the virus was first identified.

The State Department advisories coincided with an announcement by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that warned people to avoid all nonessential travel to China in order to contain the virus.

While some exceptions may be made, it is University of Tulsa policy to restrict travel to countries associated with Level 3 travel advisories. In addition to health risks, anyone traveling into China may be subject to an exit ban and may not be allowed to leave the country for an indeterminate period of time.

If you have any questions about travel to China, please contact me. If you have health-related concerns, please contact TU’s Hurricane Health Clinic.

I encourage all TU students, faculty and staff to exercise good judgment and stay safe. Our thoughts are with family, friends and colleagues in the affected areas.

Sincerely,

Jane Kucko
Vice Provost for Global Engagement
