New school will begin operations on July 1, 2014
The University of Tulsa’s Collins College of Business is creating a School of Energy Economics, Policy and Commerce in response to growth in TU’s energy business degree programs and an increased need for trained energy professionals who can meet today’s business challenges. The school will begin operations July 1, 2014, under the leadership of Professor Tim Coburn.
The Collins College of Business offered its first energy-focused business degree in the fall of 2007 with the launch of an Energy Management program. Under the leadership of founding director Ted Jacobs, the program rapidly earned a reputation as one of the top in the nation. With the success of the Energy Management program, the college expanded its energy offerings to meet the industry’s need for highly educated and skilled energy business professionals.
A minor in energy was added in 2010, and an online master of energy business degree accepted its first students in 2012. Enrollment in the college’s energy programs now exceeds 250 students. The college’s Center for Executive and Professional Development also offers a number of noncredit executive and professional development programs for the energy industry. To accommodate the program’s continued growth, TU has added energy business faculty with in-depth knowledge and substantial industry experience in energy law, energy finance, energy accounting, energy policy, energy economics and energy commodity trading.
“Establishing the School of Energy Economics, Policy and Commerce solidifies TU’s commitment to providing interdisciplinary, energy-focused business degree programs that meet the demands of an evolving energy industry,” said Gale Sullenberger, dean of the Collins College of Business. “The school and its faculty look forward to the continued expansion of TU’s energy business degree and executive education programs and developing research initiatives that advance the energy industry around the world.”
Faculty members for the new school include professors Tim Coburn, Brice Collier, Mark Collins, Dan Crunkleton, Don Hansen, Ted Jacobs, Linda Nichols, Jeff Paul, Ron Ripple, Tom Seng and Roger Stern.
Also housed in the Collins College of Business are the School of Accounting & Management Information Systems, the School of Finance, Operations Management & International Business and the Department of Management & Marketing.
