Coronavirus Update: TU Travel Policy (student, staff and faculty email) — March 11, 2020

TU community,

In light of the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), all students, faculty and staff should adhere to the following University of Tulsa travel guidelines, which have been updated as of March 10, 2020, and supersede any previous or existing travel policies.

  • All university-sponsored travel to countries that have a level 2 or 3 travel warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been canceled (currently China, Italy, South Korea, Iran and Japan). For personal travel, TU recommends the same limitations. The university also recommends reconsidering any international travel knowing that this is an evolving situation and other countries could be added to the warning list during your trip.
  • Please review the CDC helpful guidance for travelers. During your travels, stay informed about developments and watch for advisories that could impact your journey and/or your return.
  • The CDC now recommends travelers, particularly those with underlying health issues, defer all cruise ship travel worldwide.
  • The CDC has not recommended canceling travel within the United States. However, this situation is unfolding quickly, and you should carefully consider nonessential travel to U.S. locations that have declared a state of emergency or are experiencing a growing number of cases.

Should you travel to or through any of the impacted countries listed in the university’s coronavirus travel guidelines and restrictions or on a cruise, you will not be permitted to return to campus or participate in TU-sponsored activities until you:

  1. Complete a TU travel form and subsequent medical screening through Alexander Health Center (students) or Hurricane Health Clinic (employees), and
  2. Complete a self-quarantine period (currently 14 days) following your return and monitor/document your temperature twice a day, and
  3. Complete a follow-up medical screening video call (such as Skype) through Alexander Health Center/Hurricane Health Clinic.

To be clear, our campus is not closed. As confirmed by the Tulsa Health Department, there is no known exposure to TU at this time. Our classes have moved online and some events are being postponed or canceled out of an abundance of caution. More notifications will be shared with the TU community soon, so please continue to watch for emails and check the university website regularly.

Thank you,
