Faculty Help

This TU experience began with me graduating high school and moving onto campus the next day. I graduated from a small high school, so I had no clue how a large-scale school operates. Not that TU is huge, but it’s far more significant than any school I’ve attended. With that in mind, I began summer classes and tried to manage my schedule the same way I had in high school. I found out very quickly that my study habits and time management were subpar for a prestigious university; soon, I became overwhelmed and began underperforming in the classroom. The illusion I had about my intelligence quickly faded since this was no longer a 2A high school, I had to make some profound study habit changes rapidly. After a few more weeks had gone by, I had begun to adapt to the higher demand of college-level classes. My grades were improving, and my study habits had improved exponentially. These improvements were significant besides one key element I had left out. I had failed to realize that summer classes had to paid for before enrolling in the fall term, something my “freshman” mind had been unable to comprehend. So, rather than seeking out help and solving this issue, I just kept going through the weeks and saying, “Well, I’ll take care of that bill at the end of the summer.” Miraculously, that is not how college works. By this time, the summer term had ended, and I had roughly three weeks until the fall term began. I remember sitting in my dorm room, and I get an email from someone. The email reads “Come to my office now” and includes the information about where the said office was. So, after my unexpected meeting with a faculty member from the bursar’s office, I found out that I have a balance of $12,700 that has to be paid in two weeks, or I don’t get to enroll for the fall term. For the sake of this faculty member’s privacy, I will not include their name, but they were responsible for helping me get my outstanding balance paid and ensure my spot in the fall term. This person took care of me like no other faculty member at any school has before, and I will never forget that. After learning my lesson from this summer, I will make sure never to enter a situation like this again. One thing is for sure, the faculty at TU are here to aid the students; they genuinely care about the wellbeing of their “kids.” TU and its administration want to see the students succeed, which I will never forget.
