Fall 2021 Welcome – August 22, 2021 (Employee/Student email)

TU community,

The fall 2021 semester has arrived, classes begin Monday, and it is my honor to proudly welcome everyone back to campus for an in-person experience. This is my first semester as president at The University of Tulsa, and I am eager to see the campus filled with movement, excitement and vitality.

I am not the only new face on campus. We have new deans, faculty, staff members and – best of all – new students. This fall, we are welcoming more than 610 freshmen, nearly 100 transfer students and many new graduate students. Please join me in making them feel at home.

While concerns remain about COVID-19, it is my hope that we all follow the recommendations from health experts and approach this academic year with care so that we all may remain together – or TUgether – as one community. The health and well-being of students, faculty and staff is always my top priority, and I need each of you to help keep our campus safe. Here’s how:

  • Get vaccinated – if you haven’t already – at the Alexander Health Center and update your vaccination status with our health staff.
  • Stay informed through emails, campus conversations, social media and signage across campus.
  • Carry a mask and use it when social distancing is restricted and/or you are asked to wear one.
  • Send your questions to covid19@utulsa.edu.

I am grateful for your resiliency and optimism. I am inspired by the care you show for others through word and deed. All of the components that make TU distinctive are happening this year. I cannot wait to hear more of your ideas and celebrate your successes. If you have something you would like to discuss with me directly, please call my personal cell phone or access my calendar and arrange a time for us to meet.

Looking ahead, our Student Experience team has scheduled open house events Wednesday. The annual Student Association-sponsored Activities Fair is Thursday night on Dietler Commons. Soccer, volleyball and cross-country are all competing, and our first home football game is Sept. 2. There is already so much to do, and I hope to see each of you fully immersed in university life this fall.

Go TU!
