The one thing all college kids can agree on: if there is an event that says “free food” on the flyer, you are legally obligated to attend and claim your spot. Nah that’s not a law, but if it was I would never have broken that law (maybe expect this one time… oh and the other time, wait don’t forget- you get the point).
College isn’t simply just about learning inside the classroom, going home to do homework, and then going to work to pay for our tuition. Luckily, TU has a diverse community of student organizations that host a wide variety of events that range from actual free things (food, goodies, etc.) to entertaining activities (yoga, dancing, movie night, etc).
Within TU, there exist many cultural organizations, Greek life, student government, and even education-based groups that further your academic learning with prominent speakers in their field of work (once with the Mayor of Tulsa). I am heavily involved with one cultural organization, Asian American Student Association, and I have seen first hand how each officer interacts with one another to provide the best experience possible to the general student body.
We hosted quite a few events like giving out homemade boba kits to make boba tea at home, a festival to celebrate the moon with lots of food, and soon hosting an event to raise funds for our Afghan friends arriving in Tulsa.
With each club, you get to witness the interwoven relationship between each student, potential friendships being made, all while enjoying the comfort of… free goodies. Let’s not forget that our tuition in a way “pays for itself”, but you have to ask, would I have used that money to actually buy it, and then shared the same enjoyment with others? Probably not, but hey, it’s a different kind of feeling while you’re in college. Enjoy what college has to offer to the best you can, and have fun in meeting new people along the way!
