As the new academic year starts, we have exciting developments to report. The offices for the dean and staff of Kendall College of Arts & Sciences have moved to beautiful Tyrrell Hall, as part of a campus master plan re-organization that will bring more A&S departments around the “old U,” visually solidifying the role of arts and sciences as the foundation of the university. Please come visit us! Each Wednesday afternoon we’ll have snacks and drinks, so stop by for a refreshment and quick chat.

As we prepare for 170 incoming first-year A&S students, we also welcome 19 new and visiting faculty in ACE Management, Art, Anthropology, English, History, Language and Literature, Media Studies, Music, Philosophy and Religion, and Psychology. We’re excited about this growth in the college and for the contributions that our new faculty will make to the intellectual culture of the university.

We’re also issuing new academic programs, such as a one-of-its-kind minor in Historical Trauma and Transformation as well as curriculum in Music Industry, a booming field in ACE Management; piloting a series of small group tutorials to encourage the habits of deep thinking and analysis characteristic of our arts and sciences disciplines; expanding our language courses to offer Cherokee; launching a student advisory group to guide the college; and creating new traditions with a welcome back cookout on Sept. 15, which I hope will become an annual can’t-miss event.

We are looking for more ways to connect with YOU—if you have suggestions for a program, event, or way to deepen our partnerships in the Tulsa community or beyond, please reach out.

Best wishes to all for a great start to the academic year,

Kirsten Olds
Interim Dean
Kendall College of Arts & Sciences
