This holiday season, I’m incredibly thankful to everyone in The University of Tulsa family who has made my first semester exciting, invigorating, and fun. Kendall College of Arts & Sciences truly is an amazing community, and it extends beyond campus to all the wonderful alumni and Tulsans I’ve met this semester who care so deeply about our students and our mission. Some of the people who made me feel at home are members of the family by matriculation – like Bob Mogelnicki (BS ’79), a former Golden Hurricane center, who now has me playing guitar in his band. Others are members by choice, like Martin Wing, who graduated from Rice and Columbia but who has been a loyal college supporter for years and has recently been teaching me about UTulsa football and the Tulsa Symphony.
It’s easy to see why they care so deeply about this place. Our faculty go all out for our students, and our students turn that experience into limitless opportunity. In this newsletter, for example, you’ll read about Anna Wigal, a first-generation college student and major in Women’s and Gender Studies who spent her summer interning with the tribal Calista Corporation in Alaska, and Kenvi Phillips (BA ‘02) who went from a History degree at UTulsa to being named the inaugural director of the Barack Obama Presidential Library.
And of course you’ll read about some of our amazing faculty, who have been helping us understand our present moment by exploring political history and by writing about our current elections in the pages of “The New York Times.”
It’s a great time to be a part of the Kendall College of Arts & Sciences, where we are focused on elevating the student experience and celebrating all the great work our faculty and staff do.
Gratefully,
Blaine Greteman
