Spring has arrived at UTulsa, and the tulips are popping up everywhere! As a scholar of 17th century poetry, I love to see them because they remind me of the poet Andrew Marvell, who wrote that in the biblical Garden of Eden “Tulips, in several Colours barr’d, / Were then the Switzers of our Guard.” (If you don’t get the reference, google “Swiss Guard outfits” to see the multi-colored apparel of the soldiers who guard the Vatican). As a dean of the college, I love to see them because they remind me that someone in the past, while leaves were falling from the trees, planted them as a gift to the future.
And that brings me to our other spring excitement: Giving Day is Tuesday, Apr. 8! This is the most important day of the year for you to make an impact on UTulsa now and for generations to come. Students, faculty, alumni, and friends can all take part by visiting the website now, marking their calendars and spreading the word. Please also consider becoming a Giving Day Ambassador, which provides you with your own, personalized link to share and a nifty T-shirt to wear.
As you read the rest of this newsletter, you’ll see some of the many ways that your gifts matter at UTulsa, and some of the ways that our donors are ensuring life-changing experiences, scholarships, and learning for the next generation.
Thank you, as always, for your support – and for helping us grow this beautiful garden!
