TU Law: Moment of reflection
As we approach the end of yet another semester, I am proud to take a moment to reflect on the many accomplishments of the students, faculty, and alumni of The University of Tulsa College of Law. Our institution has once again distinguished itself in numerous fields and areas of expertise, reinforcing our proud tradition of excellence and leadership.
Every year, we recognize outstanding individuals at the annual Oklahoma Bar Association meeting, an event that has become a proud tradition of the college. This year’s event was no different, as we came together to celebrate the contributions of two esteemed alumni, Antonio Jeffrey (JD ’06) and Kristin Treager (JD ’13), who have dedicated themselves to promoting justice and equity. We were also honored to have Drew Edmondson (JD ’78), a renowned champion of environmental victories and groundbreaking legislation, deliver the keynote address.
We were equally honored to co-host McAfee & Taft’s Off the Record event, which was a resounding success in its mission to empower female law students. The opportunity to hear from successful women in the legal field, share diverse backgrounds, and exchange insights and answers in a supportive and inspiring environment was invaluable.
It is with immense pride that we recognize Sara Hill’s (JD ’03) appointment as a federal judge in Oklahoma, making history as the first Native American or Alaska Native woman to hold this position in the state. This is a remarkable achievement, and we are thrilled that The University of Tulsa College of Law played a role in her journey.
We were also honored to host the annual Veterans Day Reception, a testament to our commitment to honor and recognize the valor and sacrifices made by U.S. Marine veteran Carol Thompson (JD ’08) and all men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The event truly reflected the sense of pride and gratitude we all feel for the contributions made by veterans in securing the basic rights and freedoms we enjoy today.
Finally, we are gearing up to welcome University of California, Berkeley School of Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky as our guest speaker for The John W. Hager Distinguished Lecture in Law. Chemerinsky is widely recognized as one of the most influential legal scholars in the country, and we look forward to his insights and perspectives.
We are continually proud of the work our students, faculty, and alumni do each day, and we celebrate the impact they make in their respective fields. As a community, we remain committed to shaping and influencing the future of legal excellence. As we move forward, let us remember the importance of justice, equity, and integrity, and may we continue to strive for progress, innovation, and change.
Sincerely,
Oren R. Griffin
