Goldie qualifies for 2015 national dock-diving competition

UPDATE: TU’s Golden Furricane placed eighth out of 18 dogs in her division at the 2015 competition! It was her first time to qualify for nationals and participate in such an event. Go Goldie!

The University of Tulsa’s canine ambassador, Goldie, has received an invitation from North America Diving Dogs to its annual NADD/AKC Eukanuba Championship in Orlando, Fla. The Golden Hurricane’s four-legged athlete qualified for the Dec. 12 national competition through dock-diving events in Arkansas and Texas earlier this year.

Goldie, a 2½-year-old golden retriever, has been a campus favorite since arriving at TU as a puppy in the summer of 2013. Among other activities, she attends sporting events, visits students and alumni and participates in initiatives that support the Tulsa community.

Off campus, Goldie has fun hanging out with her “big brother” Willis, a 135-pound Newfoundland who’s trained as a water-rescue dog. In addition to her love of dock diving and all things water, Goldie participates in agility training and enjoys playing fetch in open fields.
