Lisa Grimes, director of instruction and research at The University of Tulsa’s McFarlin Library, has been named the Oklahoma Instruction Librarian of the Year for 2024 by the Community of Oklahoma Instruction Librarians (COIL). This award recognizes excellence in instruction through innovative methods or exceptional dedication to providing the highest quality instruction.
“Throughout my journey as an educator and librarian, I have witnessed the transformative power of effective instruction,” Grimes said. “This award reaffirms my commitment to fostering information literacy, empowering students, and collaborating with colleagues. Being named the Instruction Librarian of the Year for Oklahoma is incredible, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the COIL community and The University of Tulsa for supporting and recognizing this amazing accomplishment!”
COIL is a professional organization and a subgroup of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries. COIL works to encourage and promote the usefulness of Oklahoma academic library instruction programs, increase visibility of information literacy statewide, and promote high professional standards, in addition to other initiatives.
The Oklahoma Instruction Librarian of the Year award is given to individuals who demonstrate creativity and originality in their instructional approaches, whether through incorporating technology, active learning strategies, or unique teaching materials, and who consistently go above and beyond to deliver exceptional instruction.
