Coming into TU I didn’t know what to expect in the classroom because of how small the school was. Usually when someone thinks of a college classroom they think of 50-100 people in a large lecture hall. However, TU is much different than that. We have very small classes in comparison and they get even smaller the higher level a class is. I didn’t realize this at first because many of my introductory courses had large numbers. As time went on and I began taking higher level courses, it became much more apparent how small the school is. At times it would be shocking to see how many students showed up to the first class of the semester.
As I move through my path of classes it becomes very evident that this is a great aspect of TU. I am able to have closer relationships with professors and classmates, have much better class times, and am often able to participate in class. I have learned that this isn’t the case at many other colleges. My friends at these larger colleges tend to find my experiences very unique, and often seem to show their preference for a smaller school. I also find it much easier to learn the material during class. Having that close relationship and almost being forced to be sat close to the board is very beneficial. The impact this has had may seem miniscule to some, but I truly believe that it has made a difference in my classes here at TU.
