In the summer before I started my freshman year at TU, I had the most amazing opportunity to be a part of JumpstartTU. With many other incoming freshmen, we traveled to Panama to learn about and participate in the Panamanian traditions and culture. We were there for an entire week visiting different places. One of the first places we visited was the Panama Canal, which was so cool to see in person.
Some of my favorite activities that we did were learning dances, hiking in the rainforest, and making crafts with the little kids at a school we visited. Another thing that made this trip very special to me was meeting my roommate for the first time. We actually found each other in the incoming freshman GroupMe, and then realized we were both going to Panama the same week! This trip was not only very interesting and educational, but I got to know my roommate better and bond with her. I met so many people on this trip and made friends that I am still very close with 3 years later.
JumpstartTU provides students with an opportunity to grow closer with each other and with faculty, and also shows what studying abroad would look like. Although the pandemic has put a hold on traveling, TU is still giving this opportunity to students virtually. I highly recommend taking advantage of this amazing opportunity to expand your knowledge, grow closer to your peers, and prepare for the next four years at TU!
