As the academic year ends and we prepare to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2025, I write to share with you that I have decided to step down as dean of The University of Tulsa’s College of Law effective June 30, 2025. Without question, it has been a pleasure and an honor to serve as dean.
Since 1923, the College of Law has provided a quality education for students seeking to enter the legal profession. More than 100 years later, UTulsa Law remains dedicated to producing the next generation of outstanding and distinguished lawyers. I am grateful to have been a part of the important work of providing our students with the necessary knowledge and skills and placing the College of Law on a positive path for the future.
Over the past three years, with the support and encouragement of President Brad Carson and Provost George Justice, UTulsa Law:
- Significantly increased the median LSAT score and grade-point average of the entering class;
- Expanded its experiential learning and clinical offerings;
- Experienced improved Oklahoma Bar passage rates each year;
- Enjoyed a significant increase in the number of students employed 10 months after graduation;
- Navigated a successful American Bar Association accreditation process;
- Hired multiple new faculty each year; and
- Renovated the law school building and infrastructure with new computer technology, audio, and video equipment.
With the support of our alumni and friends. we:
- Celebrated the college’s 100th anniversary;
- Inducted a host of worthy alumni and supporters into the UTulsa Law Hall of Fame;
- Hosted numerous speaker series and symposia;
- Provided scholarships for law students; and
- Supported faculty research to advance the program of legal education.
Because of the strength of the Tulsa community, the commitment of The University of Tulsa as reflected in the kind and generous encouragement and support of the president and provost, and the dedication of the UTulsa Law family, I say, with an abundance of humility and gratitude, that it has truly been an honor serving as dean. I look forward to working and collaborating with you in the future.
With admiration and respect,
Dean Oren Griffin
