Marketing professor awarded Fulbright for research in Ireland

Charles Wood, a TU associate professor of marketing, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to conduct research at Dublin City University in Ireland during the fall 2015 semester.

As part of his research, Wood will direct a study that tests the effectiveness of three listening strategies. Findings will help people in a variety of fields better understand and empathize with others, including salespeople, counselors, executives and students.

“I am excited and honored to have been selected for a Fulbright award in Ireland,” Wood said. “In addition to funding research that advances the understanding of listening and the role it plays in workplace and educational settings, I hope this opportunity also raises awareness of the outstanding initiatives taking place across The University of Tulsa.”

The grant will support Wood’s research in addition to travel and living expenses during his stay in Ireland.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends approximately 800 American scholars and professionals per year to more than 140 countries where they lecture, teach and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. The Fulbright Program, established under legislation introduced by then-Sen. J. William Fulbright in 1946, awards approximately 8,000 grants annually to students, scholars, teachers and professionals around the world.
