Coming into TU my freshman year, I was looking for a community I could become involved in. One community I found is the Newman Center on campus. The Newman Center is a Catholic Church. I discovered this community by attending mass on Sunday. After a few weeks I began to know many of the students who are involved at the Newman Center.
All of the students are incredibly nice and welcoming to new people. This community helped my grow in my faith and gave me many friendships I still enjoy.
The Newman Center helped me stay active socially, especially in a time when it was easy to become socially isolated. When I felt like leaving my dorm, I went to the Newman Center and there was always someone there I could play in pool or ping pong or just hang out with. The Newman Center also had regular events I could attend such as campfires and float trips and many more.
I am currently involved in a few bible studies as well as the Newman flag football team. This year I was able to experience intramurals for the first time and I am loving the experience! I was really looking forward to college intramurals and I am glad I get to participate in them with a community I have found to be so fruitful in my life. I am so thankful for the Newman Center, and I hope to find more communities I can be a part of at TU.
