I was nervous my second encounter on the campus with orientation because I was the only commuter in my group, but I ended up meeting some cool people that is not from Oklahoma. I even unexpectedly had surgery the weekend before orientation, so people where so helpful helping me take it easy. The orientation was fun, and I also had a commuter meeting during orientation that helped give me some outlets. We have a GroupMe to connect with each other; like pass the message if some kind of event is going on in the campus like the Career fair. I honestly did not think that making friends on the campus would be easy or be made in the first week of orientation. We still talk to this day, and I have some of them in my classes which is cool. My group was called the Flying Squirrels, which was a funny when one of my peers gave our group leader our mascot as a plush toy. My peer mentor is a student, who helps with giving insight on life on campus. She gives insight on the ability that the faculty probably cannot give to a freshman. I recently had a one-on-one meeting with her, which she was just checking on how I am doing in my classes and maintaining a balance. My orientation group and I actually take FYE (First Year Experience) together, so we get to learn tips and tricks on being a better student. I sometimes join them for lunch before the class.
